The Vinci BAM JV has awarded Allerton Steel a contract to fabricate 16 heavy section columns as fabricated plate girders, 2 fabricated channels and associated brackets, for their Tottenham Court Road Station Upgrade project. Due to the significant loadings on these beams they are to be fabricated from a very high yield steel grade S460N which requires specific welding and fabrication procedures, which Allerton has great experience of.

While Allerton Steel is not responsible for the site installation we are required to deliver to the central London site for very specific delivery periods in order that the beams can be installed during possessions. Once the plate girders are installed Vinci BAM will complete a very accurate site survey of the end connection – against our pre-fabricated template, which will allow some installation tolerance. The fabrication of the permanent channel ties will be fabricated to perfectly fit the installed girders.

On behalf of Stobert Rail, we have fabricated 2 bridge collision beams to provide additional protection for a Network Rail stone built arch bridge which has suffered from repeated bridge strikes from road vehicles. The 2 beams were fabricated from heavy plate to match the profile of the bridge arch. The scope of supply included the anchor brackets to hold the collision beams onto the existing structure. We additionally undertook a very accurate “as built” survey of the completed beams using our own specialist surveying system, once fabricated, so that the anchor brackets could be accurately installed during the installation possession reducing the possibility of construction errors during this critical stage.
